A Xero bookkeeper in Los Angeles

Xero reconciliation, rules and month end kept current, by bookkeepers who work in Xero every week.

Updated November 2, 2026

Short answer: A Xero bookkeeper in Los Angeles reconciles your bank feeds line by line, checks suggested matches instead of accepting them, and sets up bank rules and tracking categories. Invoices and bills are matched, multi-currency accounts are revalued, and a lock date closes each month. You keep the Xero subscription and invite the bookkeeper as a user.

Why some Los Angeles businesses pick Xero

Xero is common with businesses that started abroad, owners who came from the UK, Australia or New Zealand, and companies whose CPA prefers it. It handles multiple currencies well, which matters for production companies and online sellers with overseas vendors.

Xero's reconciliation screen is built around matching each bank line to something in the books. When that matching is done well, the books stay tidy. When it is skipped, the unreconciled count climbs into the hundreds.

What Xero bookkeeping covers

  • Daily bank feeds reconciled line by line, with suggested matches checked, not accepted blindly
  • Bank rules for repeat transactions
  • Tracking categories for jobs, locations or departments
  • Sales invoices and bills entered or matched, so receivables and payables are right
  • Multi-currency accounts revalued and reconciled
  • Month end with a lock date, so closed periods stay closed

Xero problems we see most

A large number of unreconciled items in the bank account, sometimes going back a year. Statement balances in Xero that differ from the bank, usually because an import was run twice or a feed broke and was restarted.

Transfers between your own accounts recorded as income and expense instead of a transfer. And payment processor payouts reconciled as single sales, with fees and refunds missing. Each one of these makes the profit and loss wrong in a different way.

Moving to or from Xero

If your CPA works in QuickBooks and you are in Xero, you do not have to switch. Xero exports everything a CPA needs. If you do want to move, the cleanest time is at a year end, after the old file is reconciled.

What a month end in Xero looks like

The bank reconciliation screen is cleared for every account, so the count of unreconciled lines is zero. The reconciliation report for each account is checked against the statement balance, because a cleared screen and a correct balance are not always the same thing.

Then the aged receivables and payables are reviewed so old invoices and bills are either chased, paid or written off with a reason. Multi-currency balances are revalued if you hold them. Finally a lock date is set so nobody can change the closed month by accident, and your reports go out with any open questions listed.

If you use tracking categories, the month end also checks that every line carries one. A profit and loss by job or by location is only useful when nothing falls into the unassigned column.

How the work starts

You invite the bookkeeper as a user in your Xero organisation. The team reviews the unreconciled items, the balance sheet and the chart of accounts, then tells you whether you need a catch-up first or can go straight to monthly work.

Where we work

We keep books for businesses across the City of Los Angeles, the Westside, the Eastside, the San Fernando Valley, the San Gabriel Valley, the Gateway Cities and the South Bay.

Questions

Do you work in my Xero file?

Yes. You keep the subscription and invite the bookkeeper as a user.

Can you fix hundreds of unreconciled items?

Yes. That is a catch-up or cleanup, done in date order and matched to statements.

Do you handle payroll in Xero?

US payroll usually runs in a separate payroll app. The team records payroll in Xero from your payroll reports.

Can my CPA use a Xero file?

Yes. Most CPAs can work from Xero reports or an invited advisor login.

Is Xero or QuickBooks better for a Los Angeles business?

Both work well for small businesses. The better choice is usually the one your CPA knows and that connects to your bank, payroll and sales tools. If you are already in one and it works, there is rarely a reason to switch.

Talk to a bookkeeper

Tell us where your books stand. A bookkeeper reads it and replies to set up a short call.

  • No cost to ask.
  • You get a real person, not a sales sequence.
  • Behind by a month or by years: both are normal here.
